Imagine if all of the privately owned city properties and their green spaces were combined? It amounts to an incredible opportunity to provide habitat not only for ourselves but also for wildlife, birds and pollinators.
This corner city garden was envisioned as a densely planted and low maintenance garden. It’s mowed down once in the spring and largely left alone the rest of the year. Over time the plants have intermingled to close any gaps where weeds might have found space to grow. Native plants were primarily chosen because they inherently have deeper root systems; so once established, they require less water than their counterparts. The design pays careful attention to the sensory experience and seasonality of plantings to ensure year round visual interest, habitat and food sources for an ecosystem under an established Norway maple.
